Lawn Bowls ?

My name is Darryl Hemsley a bowler at  Kensington Marryatville Bowling Club
in Adelaide, Australia.

My wife Liz and I also run a small family computer software business and
have several of our products in over half of Australia's schools.

After retiring and taking up bowls - couldn't resist the temptation to use
modern infomation techology in the form of CDROMS  and created with my club
the 'World's First CD' promoting our great sport.

In the last six months it has been fun finding all sorts of bowlers,
businesses, clubs, libraries and schools in both Australia and New Zealand
who are excited about a 'new development in bowling'.

Lawn bowls has well and truly entered the new millennium with the release
of a CD ROM promoting the sport.

Winning Bowls highlights the spirit of the sport, coaching techniques and
gives narrated visual demonstrations, making it a truly interactive
experience.
Novices and long-term bowlers alike will find there's something to be
learned.
It's a project of Constellations Educational Software in cooperation with
Kensington Marryatville Bowling Club, South Australia.

Using the computer mouse, the user can control the duration of the game and

"Lawn bowls is a subtle and intriguing sport and we do not want to see it
die through lack of reinventing itself to a new generation of bowlers,"
said Darryl Hemsley of Constellation Software.

And while the use of new technology is bound to see more younger people
introduced to the sport, Mr Hemsley is just as excited at the prospect of
more older people learning bowls as they also become computer literate.
He cites the case of a 91-year-old Canberra woman whose first fun play CD
while learning about information technology was Winning Bowls.

"Wakerie Library in South Australia found local bowlers fascinated by the
effects and amount of useful information they could get about their sport,"
Mr Hemsley said.
"And some schools are using the CD to introduce kids to the simple ideas
involved in bias lawn bowling prior to visiting the greens."
