The Scottish Indoor Championships
This years Championship Finals at the splendid Richard Corsie Stadium in Edinburgh produced some excellent entertainment for the specators who turned up in numbers to watch the six highly competitive Finals on show. The best result by far though was the fine display by Inverclyde's own 'Golden Boys' , the Senior Fours rink consisting of Alistair Black, Ian Laughran, Jimmy Bradley and skipped by Tom Forbes. Up against a strong foursome from East Lothian, who many had thought would have the 'home' advantage, they ran out winners by 30 shots to 16 shots. Despite the high score, this was by no means an easy game for the Inverclyde men, in fact with only five ends to go the East Lothian link gave themselves a 3 shot lead at 16 v 13 when they scored an impressive five shots, which could have put pressure on Inverclyde's men. Not to be outdone though, the glorious Inverclyders fought back immediately with a five of their own to regain the lead. The East Lothian team then lost any remaining chance they had of winning this game, when Inverclyde gained a further 10 shots to lead by 28 shots to 16 going into what turned to be the final end at the sixteenth which meant that to have any hope the East Lothian rink would have to score four shots or more to take the game into a 17th end. The Inverclyde rink were now all smiles and playing with the confidence of champions, killed off any chance of a 17th end with another two shots, which the now deflated East Lothian rink had no answer too. This was a fine display by the Inverclyde's Senior Champions and I hope you will all join me in congratulating them in being Inverclyde's Scottish Champions 2003. Well done Lads!!! |
