The President's Singles Final was a classic encounter between two of Gourock Park's finest players, Ian Brown versus Terry Duffy and they produced an excellent final battle. The game was won by Ian Brown by 21 shots to 14 shots in a game that contained around 21 ends. Terry Duffy held the advantage in the earlier stages and was in front by 12 shots to 9 with Ian at loggerheads with his first delivery in most of the early ends. The next few ends saw Ian bury the hatchet with his first bowl issue and brought himself right back into the game at 12 shots all. Terry quickly regained the lead at the next playing from a short mat but Ian was in great form and quickly not only brought things back level but then went into a 14 shots to 13 shots lead.
Terry made things all square with a single in the next end which meant that after 19 ends played it was all square at 14 all. Ian Brown then had a confidence boosting double at the next end followed by a great treble at the next in which he brilliantly trailed the jack with his last bowl after two previous 'touchers' had been delivered to lead by 19 shots to 14. Ian then secured the title with the two shots he required, although Terry was very unluckly with his final two efforts at grabbing the shot back from Ian.
A Great final by any standards and well done to both players |
