No shocks in this Round! All the top names managed through the dreaded preliminary.
Newcomer, Michael Stevenson, played a great game against John Hagen, before losing out by just 4 shots.

Once again no major shocks, except for myself, but unfortunately for me, I came up against Tommy Docherty who on the night had the game sewn up early on! I guess it must be next year I will be Champ?  I wish!!!

This Round saw last years runner-up Jim Crawford knocked out, losing heavily to former Champion, John Kane.Senior Champion,Archie Forbes also took a tumble as did one of my tips for the favourites for the title, Joda Reid

Several tough ties to call in the quarter-finals, especially the tie between John Hagen and Rodger Lynn, which should be close, Andy Kearns against Tommy Docherty should also be close. My Prediction? Hagen v Kearns,
Duffy v Kane in the semi-finals

Well! My predictions were well out! Only one correct. Willie Reid provided the biggest surprise result, defeating former Champ, John Kane. Rodger Lynn destroyed John Hagen by 21 shots to 3 ,They are joined in the Semi-finals by Tommy Docherty and Terry Duffy. My Prediction? I aint making one!!!

The Final between the hot favourite, Rodger Lynn and this years surprise finalist, Willie Reid had all the makings of a great final. Rodger chasing his third championship at Gourock Park was the hot favourite to overcome dark horse, Willie, but he would also have been aware that his opponent had taken the scalps of strong players in the previous rounds. Willie, who not many would have tipped to reach this stage of the championship, defeated a former Champion, John Kane in the quarter-final and came from behind at 20 shots to 13 down against Terry Duffy in the semi-final and so went into this game with no fear.
The early period of the game saw Rodger take an 8 shots to 1 shot lead even though he suffered the indignity of throwing a wrong bias bowl!! in the 2nd end. However during this period, he also scored a maximum at the 4th end and put his opponent under some early pressure.
At this stage it looked as if it was going to be a quick game. Willie however, fought back and after 11 ends the score was 10 shots to 8 shots in Rodger's favour. The next two ends saw both players gaining single shots to make the score 12 shots to 9 shots at the 13th end.
Both players were now playing some great bowling, but it was Rodger who once again gained the upper hand and powered his way to a 17 v 9 lead by the 16th end. Willie's lack of experience was beginning to take its toll as he struggled to find the form he had shown in earlier rounds. At the 17th end Willie gained one more shot, but it was not to be his night as Rodger recorded a double in the 18th and 19th ends to win the much sought after trophy.
This was a great game to watch, but for the romantics who love nothing better than for the underdog to win, it was not to be. In this case it was Goliath and not David that won the battle. Willie put up a brave fight, but unfortunately his lack of experience I think was the major factor on the outcome of this match, but he must be congratulated for reaching the Final. Congratulations to Rodger on winning this third Championship and will now go on to try and win the 'double' when he plays in the Final of The President's Singles against George Twaddle .
