The Davidson Pairs Trophy
28th July 2001
Sponsored by
The Crawfurd Car Centre

The Davidson Pairs Trophy was yet again a successful day for Gourock Park.Warm sunshine and a slight breeze made conditions perfect as the competition got underway. Vice-President,Robert Grant welcomed everyone to the Club and wished them all a enjoyable day.
Play started at 10am with the forty eight "Pairs" split into six groups, each playing five games of five ends for two points for a win and one point for a draw. The Top Pair from each group then progressed to the "Knockout stages" which were played over seven ends in the quarter-final,nine ends in the Semi-final and finally eleven ends in the Final.
The Club Bar was doing a roaring trade as some of the players decided that either they needed a drink to help them play better or just to console themselves after a bad defeat or three.Other players were sticking to "soft drinks" as they were still in with a chance. As the "Section stages" neared thier conclusion, many players were discussing all the ifs and buts! as they studied the scoreboard to see who would have to beat who for that last chance of making the next stage.

IBM players featured strongly in the quarter-finals with 7 players still involved, including last year's Winners Mick McColgan and John Murphy. However it was only Mick & John that progressed to the semi-finals.Not one of the pairings from Gourock Park made it through to the knockout stages, but we still had hopes of a "Home win"with three "Park" players who were still in the competition.John Kane partered Gourock's Glenn Greenway,J O'Brian played lead to John Lee from IBM and finally we had George Twaddle who teamed up wth his brother Jim who plays for Gourock BC.
The Semi-Finals saw Two other Brothers,Stephen & Willie Thompson of Fort Matilda facing the Twaddle duo, with George and Jim emerging the victors.
Last year's winners Mick McColgan & John Murphy played John Kane and Glenn Greenway in a match that saw some excellent bowling and drama.

The "All Gourock" Final was a great game  with George and Jim Twaddle winning by 11 shots to 6 over John Kane and Glenn Greenway.
George and Jim Twaddle were presented with The Davidson Trophy by Mr & Mrs Cullin of The Crawfurd Car Centre, sponsors of this year's Competion.
