This year's Championships at Northfield in Ayr opened on Thursday 2nd August. Unfortunatley the weather of torrential rain, made conditions difficult for play in the morning.Despite this the Greens and the standard of Bowling was excellent.

Best performance by any of our district's players was by Upper Cowals Andy Gilmour in the Junior Singles. Andy won four games to reach the Final, which he lost to Paul Brown of Northen BC. This was Andy's second appearance in a row at the "Finals" and his third time in four years.

Gourock Park's Dougie Twaddle went down in the first round to George Prosser of Douglas Victoria BC,losing by 21 shots to 18. George went on to become Scottish Champion.

Ardgowan's Pair of George Gurney & Gilbert McCracken lost in the second round against East Lothian. The Pairs Title was won by Willie Rankin & David Gregg of Kingswood BC.

The District had high hopes of success from the Triples trio of Jim Kinsella,Freddie Kimmins &
Sandy Wotherspoon from Port Glasgow BC. Freddie and Sandy had reached the previous year's Pairs Final, but they lost to Chirnside BC who went on to win the Triples Title.

The Fours from IBM lost in the first round to Harlaw BC. The Fours Title was won by a rink from Haddington BC

Port Glasgow's Senior Fours reached the Semi-Final and were very unlucky when they lost by one shot by a measure in the last end to Kirkconnel BC. The Seniors Title was won by Westerton BC
