This year's Ladies Championship Final was played in warm summer sunshine which was enjoyed by the players and spectators on friday 27th July. The Finalists,Nancy Hawthorn and Jessie McKinnon had never won the Championship before and both of them were determined to add thier name to the much sought after Trophy.A respectable crowd settled down as the play got underway.                                              Nancy got off to a great start with three shots at the first end,but then could do nothing as her determined opponent,Jessie fought back with seven shots in the next three ends to lead by seven shots to three after four played.Not to be out done,Nancy then replied with seven shots of her own to lead by ten shots to seven at the eighth end.Jessie then grabbed the upperhand and kept Nancy on ten shots as she gained three singles,a two and a three,to lead by fifteen shots to ten. With Jessie only five shots away from victory,Nancy once again fought back to go one shot in front with four singles and a two to take the lead at sixteen shots to fifteen a the eighteenth end.Jessie scored a single shot in the next end to make the score level for the first time in the game.Nancy took the lead again at the twentieth with a single shot.It was nailbiting stuff  and anyones game,as these two evenly matched players fought for the shots that would take them to that final twenty first shot.                                    Jessie regained the lead with a two at the next end,only to see Nancy level the game again at the next.Jessie then reached twenty with a two to get within one shot of glory,but she had to wait for her moment of fame as Nancy wasnt giving up yet and scored a single to make the score twenty shots to ninteen after twenty four ends.It was a great game and it was a pity someone had to lose,but it was Jessie who gained the final shot she required to become Gourock Park Ladies Champion 2001.
