The Champion of Champions tournament at Gourock Park was a great success and thanks must go to the Committee of the Club for the planning that went into organising this memorable event, which was planned as part of the club's ongoing anniversary celebrations. Play got underway at 10am with the Gents Champions and they were later joined just after 12 noon, when the Ladies started their event. Due to the fact that I had work to go to at 12.30, i was only able to see the early stages of the gents games, but what i did see in these early games was quite remarkable. The standard of bowling that I saw was spellbinding and with so many of the great players have won the Championship of Gourock Park, from as far back as 1967, all playing against each other, i was so tempted to call in work and report that i had suddenly came down with an attack of flu because i simply hated the thought of not being able to witness this memorable part of Gourock Park's long history. The Format of the event was played in a round robin style with both the Gents and Ladies being split into two groups, with the winner and runner-up of each group progressing into the next round. |
