The 75th Anniversay Season of Bowling at Gourock Park opened today as our President, Hamish Ramsay, declared the Greens 'open'. Hamish's Wife, Kathleen, delivered the first bowl, watched by a large gathering of Members and invited Guests which included Councillor James Hunter, Robert Harron and Harry Gillen (IBM), Kenny Morrison (Greenock & District), Stuart McClure and David Bannister from Gourock B.C. Unfortunately I was unable to get time off work to witness the opening of this special year, but I did manage to get down to the Club in time for 'last orders' at the Bar and was amazed to see the transformation of the newly decorated Clubhouse, which includes the creation of a new Gents locker room. The Members who gave their own time and hard work to make this possible should be highly commended and I am sure all visitors to the Club, will be pleased to see it looking so well for this memorable year. The Opening Wapinshaw was won by M McLaren, J McFadyen, George Hetherington (Grosvenor) and Alan Ward (Gourock) who finished 15 shots up. Runners up were Gourock Park's Eddie McNeil and Peter Hendry finishing 11 shots up. |
