"The Wee disk goes on the inside "!!!!!!
A Funny thing happened tonight at Gourock Park, believe it or not  The Vice-President Robert Grant suddenly forgot which way to deliver a bowl and suffered the embarrassment of throwing a "wrong bias bowl" during a friendly pairs game with Jim Crawford,Robert Hughes and Hamish Ramsay. Robert was speechless and went a funny shade of red as his fellow bowlers howled with laughter at his mistake and to add salt in to his wounds they promptly reminded the luckless Robert that the wee disk goes on the inside!!!

A Report in "The Greenock Telegraph" tells of Inverclyde Council's possible plans to reduce running costs at all Council owned Greens. Officials met with Committee's from all the Clubs involved-Parklea & Birkmyre in Port Glasgow,Hillend,Wellington and Lady Alice in Greenock and Gourock Park to discuss the possible full or part-time management of the Clubs.
Following these talks it was revealed that only "Lady Alice" were interested in taking on the full management of thier Club. The other Clubs all expressed concerns about taking on any responsibility.
Following these talks the Council have proposed that they continue to run the bowling greens and that only whose interested be offered "Community Ownership" and that a lease would be drawn up for Lady Alice BC

21 st March 2001

Heard a little rumour today that Inverkip Bowling Club will be sending 2 League                                   Rinks to join forces with Lady Alice. If this is true i imagine that Lady Alice will be                                reverting back once again having 2 League Teams,1 in Section A and the other in                               Section B

Its now just over a fortnight til the Opening of Gourock Park for Season 2001,but                                going by the present awful siberian weather in Scotland I think theres more chance                             of Robert Grant winning the Darroch Park Sledging Race than there is of Bowling                                being played on opening day!!!! Lets hope that the weather improves before the 7th                              of April

"Its because you lost the Toss!!!!!"

Never in my almost 10 years of Bowling have I heard this Excuse for losing a                                   game! But this was the reason given when Archie Forbes,Andy Kearns & myself
were having our after-match refreshment recently at Inverclyde Indoor Bowling Club.
The 3 of us were discussing the awful first 3 Ends in our last triples game(we lost 9                            shots in those 3 ends!!) and we all agreed that it was a major contribution to our                                eventual 18 -10 shots defeat. We commented on each of our own miserable                                      performances during the game, but in particular those 3 ends. Thats when I                                        mentioned that the reason why I had such a bad start was because I couldnt adapt                            to playing the "short Jacks" that our opponents elected to play after winning the                               toss! I (Andy and myself are new to indoor bowling and have mostly played to long                              Jacks) Then Archie our Skip came up with his perfect excuse for losing this game!
"It wis your fault! if you had won the toss we widnae huv lost aw them shots!!"
"who d be a lead eh?

                                  Championship Results
At time of writing I have only had one response to my plea for other Clubs in The                                Greenock & District area to offer to send in thier Championship Results to this                                   Site! However I hope once the Season opens this will change? If you would like to                              have your Club included then please get in touch asap
