30th June Last night at Gourock Park saw two excellent quarter-final games in this year's Club Championship being played. Ian Brown,a former Champ at Gourock Park was playing Joda Reid, one of Gourock Parks ever improving players and in the other game last years Senior Champion,Archie Forbes was playing Jim Crawford.. The Game between Ian and Joda was close until Ian took a 10 shots to 5 lead after gaining a "four" in the 8th end.Joda replied with a single in the 9th,only for Ian to further increase his lead with a "three" in the 10th end.The next two ends saw Joda getting one more shot and Ian ganing "two" to lead 15 shots to 7 after twelve ends played. At this stage in the game,it was looking as if Ian had built up a big enough lead over his opponent and go to win the game. However,Joda, never one for giving up easily, had other ideas. Over the course of the next seven ends he played some excellent bowling as he gained twelve shots, with Ian only managing a single,to lead by 19 shots to 16 shots.Ian gained another single shot in the 20th end,but it was Joda who went on to win by 21 shots to 17 with a fine display of drawing in what was to be the last end.
The Game between Archie Forbes and Jim Crawford was an excellent game to watch, only slighty spoiled by the miserable weather of heavy rain that came on for the last 30 minutes of the game. Archie started the game strongly and after seven ends he lead Jim by 8 shots to 1. Over the next six ends however,Jim did not let his spirits go down and gained "ten shots" to Archie's "two" to lead by 11 shots to 10.From then on the lead changed hands several times with it being level at 13 shots each and 14 shots each. Archie took the lead at the 20th end only to have a disaster in the next when Jim scored a maximum of "four shots" to lead by 19 shots to 16.With the rain getting worse and the playing conditions getting heavier,Archie gained "two shots" to reduce the deficit to one shot at "19 shots to 18". It was Jim that progressed to the Semi-final though with "two shots" in the 24th end
Jim Crawford will now play Joda Reid in the Semi-Final with the winner playing the victor in the other semi-final between Dougie Twaddle and John Gibson.
27th June It was good to see Past President,Dougie Brown spectating at Giffnock on Sunday.Dougie recently underwent a quadruple heart bypass and all going well he should be back playing next season.

Tonight at Gourock Park, 2 Quarter-Final games were played. In the Championship,Dougie Twaddle emerged successful over Tommy Monkhouse, but shock of the night was the result between Robert Hughes and John Kane in the Presidents Singles. The score was a massive 21 shots to 1(ONE) to John. Poor Robert just had one of those nights when nothing goes right and probably wished he at stayed at home and watched Coronation Street.John played some excellent bowling and must be a strong contender for winning The Presidents Singles.
