The Final of Gourock Park's Championship will be played on Thursday 16th August @ 6.30pm. Defending Champion,Dougie Twaddle plays Jim Crawford who is by far Gourock Park's most consistent player this Season. It should be a great game to watch
6th August Last Saturday, the 4th of august, the Greenock and District B.A. ran a "Round Robin" competition for some of the young Bowlers in the district. In all twelve took part and they were split into two groups of six. Each Player had five games to contend with and the winners of each section played off in a Final to decide a Champion.
It has to be said that the standard of bowling was suberb and some of these young bowlers are going to be challenging for honours in their respective Clubs very soon. Four Clubs were represented on the day,but I am sure this will increase when word gets around. Birkmyre were represented by Brian Keenan, Port Glasgow had Kevin Watson and Stephen Hendry. Rankin Park had Paul McElwee, Jaclyn Johnstone and Laura McNicol and Grosvenor had Colin McEachnie,Graeme Stewart, John Pollock, Peter Wilson, Ryan McGhee and David Hyslop. All these players were very sporting and appreciative of their opponents skill ( most of the time) and showed maturity well beyond their years.
The Final was played between John Pollock and Stephen Hendry, which John won and was a delight to watch.
After play had ceased,Mc Donalds meals were given to the players and Junior Vice-President Jim McEwan presented all of the competitors with a voucher and G&D badges. Jim in his speech thanked Grosvenor BC for the use of their facilties, the players for making the day a success and the parents/guardians for ensuring that the young bowlers arrived and departed safely. He also thanked the parents/officials who had given up their time to arrange the tournament and mark the ties.
It would appear that all the players enjoyed the morning and that the spectators thoroughly enjoyed what they were watching. A Trophy and sponsorship has yet to be secured for this tournament, but iI feel this will not be a problem.
Clubs in the area should be aware that youngsters are out there.and they are interested in Bowling. So please look a bit harder. Submitted by John Freeburn

Congratulations to Victoria on winning Division 2 and also to Lady Alice/Inverkip on securing promotion to Division 1 and for winning the Reid Cup recently.
