14th August 2002 The Greenock & District Championships got underway on Saturday 10th at various Clubs around the district. Gourock Park's Junior Singles (Michael Stevenson) and Fours have made it through to saturdays Semi-Final. Congratulations to Rodger Lynn who won The Presidents Singles at Gourock Park tonight to add to the Club Championship that he has already won this year. Gourock Park's Alan Jack did well to reach the semi-final of the recent Greenock & District Young Bowlers competition which was held at Grosvenor BC. Alan was defeated by Port Glasgow's Kevin Watson who went on to beat Steve Gurney from Ardgowan in the Final. The event now in its second year, attracted twenty young players from around the local area and its great to see so many young players coming through. Bogleha's Andy Scott won the 'Harry Gordon' Singles beating Colin Smith of Dunoon Argyll in the Final played on the 10th of August. 5th August The Local Social Club League game between The Torpedo Factory and the Royalle Club resulted in whats believed to be the highest ever score recorded. The TFC won by 49 shot to 4. 3rd August 2002 Congratulations to Port Glasgow and Fort Matilda on winning the Championship in their respective Sections. The final league tables are now on the site, although the shots totals in section 2 are incomplete. Willie Quigley is still awaiting some score cards to be handed in. Relegated from section 1 are Lady Alice/Inverkip and Gourock, who will be replaced in section 1 by their 'B' Team next year, after they gained promotion. The AP Jess Trophy Gourock defeated Gourock Park today at Barrhill Road, to win the new AP Jess Trophy. A Report and pictures will be added to the site sometime this week. Two former Gourock Park Champions fought out an excellent game last night in the final of The Gourock Bowling Club Singles Final. Glenn Greenway defeated Nicol House by 21 shots 10 . Gourock Champion 2002 Glenn Greenway 1st August 2002 Due to some games not being played on Tuesday and results not yet in , i am unable to update the Greenock & District League Tables at the moment. Hopefully I will have all the information by Saturday. However I do know that once again Port Glasgow have secured the Section 1 Title with a 10pts to 2pts over Grosvenor 'A' on tuesday. Congratulations once again to Port Glasgow The Ladies G&D League Table will be placed on the Site sometime next week when I receive the details. Also the Ladies G&D Championship results will also be placed here as soon as possible after the Finals have been played. The Championship Singles at Gourock Park between Rodger Lynn and Willie Reid will take place on Weds 7th August at 6.30pm. Please come along to watch his David and Goliath style Final. The Gourock BC Club Championship will be contested by Nicol House and Glenn Greenway and as far as I know this game will take place on Frid 2nd August at 6.30pm Speaking of Gourock!!! The Annual Gourock versus Gourock Park Challenge match takes place this saturday at the Barrhill Road Club. Formally called The Yorkshire, the game will now be known as 'The AP Jess' Challenge Game, after the local firm stepped into sponsor the event. 6 Rinks from each Club will do battle to be the proud winners of this new Game. Gourock will be eager to seek revenge for the recent 12pt defeat to 'The Park' in the League, so it should be an epic battle between these two proud Clubs.
