GREENOCK & DISTRICT LEAGUES
Congratulations to Gourock Bowling Club on winning Section 2 with a game still to play. Who will come up with them is another story. No less than four Clubs can still win enough points to gain that vital second place.
Barring a disaster, Section 1 once again looks like Port Glasgow will be crowned Champions as they have a 10 points advantage over title chasers IBM. Next game for Port Glasgow is against Grosvenor A, who are involved in the fight to avoid the drop and IBM are up against Gourock Park, who will not want to give up their third place spot in the league.
At the other end of the table there are still 5 and maybe even 6 Clubs fighting to avoid relegation down to Section 2. Fort Matilda, Grosvenor A, Wellington, Gourock, Grosvenor B and to a lesser extent, Lady Alice are all going to have to wait until the very last end is played before they will know where they are playing next year.
Several of these Clubs will play each other on the last league day of the season and it all helps to make it an exciting finish. Grosvenor B are up against

As next week is going to be so close, i am willing to update the league Tables on the night, if there are enough Clubs out there who are prepared to either mail, text or call me on 07950 201 350 as soon as possible after the games, so that by 11pm that night we shall all know the ups and downs. I will ask John Freeburn about this at first opportunity.

August  2003
There was a very good turnout at Grosvenor for the playing of the Greenock & District "Young Bowlers" Championship. This Competition is sponsored by Mr.& Mrs.Sandy Reddy and attracted a field of 36 players from 7 different Clubs. The standard of play, particularly from some of the newer kids, was excellent. Some of the older kids, who have been playing a bit longer, are beginning to show their metal and could give many Seniors a run for their money. The Competition was run on a "Round Robin" basis of six sections and the section winners along with the two highest placed runners-up progressed to a quarter final. Eventually, the Final was contested by Stephen Gurney of Ardgowan and Paul McElwee of Rankin Park. All of the previous games had been of six ends, but the Final was played over eight ends and it was a "Cracker"!!! Both players were drawing well and, when required, using the "Running Bool" to good effect. A large crowd remained for the Final and they were not disappointed. The game was tied at 6 - 6 after seven ends and it was to be Paul who got the all important shots at the last end to claim the Title. Mrs.Reddy presented the prizes and in turn received a bouquet of flowers from Paul. President Jim McEwen thanked the Sponsors for their support and Grosvenor for the use of its' facilities. He also thanked the parents for their attendance and the players for making it a great day.

The Final of Gourock Park's Championship between Joda Reid and Ian Brown will take place on
friday 8th August at 6.30pm, it is also hoped that the President's Final will be played on the same night.
